Trauma Therapy in Calgary
Does life feel harder than you would like it to?
You might have recently gone through a single overwhelming experience, or perhaps you’ve faced trauma over a longer period of time.
Whether you’ve just come out of this situation or it happened early in your life, the impact can still be felt.
THESE MAY SOUND FAMILIAR
-
Maybe you’re suddenly overwhelmed by anxiety, making it extremely hard to fulfill your everyday responsibilities. Or perhaps you’ve realized that you’ve been carrying big feelings and sensations inside for as long as you can remember, leaving you exhausted from just trying to be functional.
-
You might often experience unwanted memories of those overwhelming experiences or even feel as though you’re back in that situation.
-
Your body might feel constantly under threat, as if you need to run away or fight off danger.
-
You might notice that you're struggling to stay focused and productive at work, isolating yourself and losing important relationships, or no longer engaging in activities that once brought you joy.
You can reclaim your vitality and joy. You can find balance, feel more regulated, and be truly present. It’s a journey, and I’d be happy to walk it with you.
HOW TRAUMA THERAPY CAN HELP
-
Understand how your nervous system works and how it may have been impacted by trauma, making sense of your internal and external experiences. This encourages compassion and kindness towards your own experiences, and it can inform your intentional responses.
-
Tune into your nervous system, understand its needs, and gain tools to feel more grounded and balanced.
-
Process past traumatic experiences so they no longer hold the same power over your present, allowing you to truly live in the moment.
I’ll help you through this process, meeting you exactly where you are.
My approach to trauma therapy is rooted in trust: I believe there is nothing wrong with you—your nervous system is simply working incredibly hard to keep you safe. I fully trust that your nervous system knows what it needs to do to heal. My role is to support you and create the right environment for that healing to take place.

I work from a somatic approach. While somatic therapy may involve discussing past experiences and current symptoms, a key aspect is listening to your body by tracking sensations. I will guide you through this process, explaining everything we do along the way. And remember, everything is optional in our sessions! For more details, visit the Approach page to learn about Somatic Experiencing.

In our first session, I'll answer any questions you have about the informed consent that you would have already read. We'll spend some time getting to know each other, discussing your reasons for seeking counseling, and exploring the goals and direction you’d like your therapy to take. This is just a general outline—sessions are flexible, and I like to meet clients where they are, following conversations and body processes wherever a good opportunity for healing presents itself.

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. It can vary greatly from one person to another. Some individuals find relief after just a few sessions, while others may engage in therapy for years. The length of therapy depends on many internal and external factors, so it’s challenging to determine the number of sessions needed without knowing your unique experiences and needs. I view therapy as a journey that evolves with your life. We might work together regularly for an extended period, or we might have a few sessions, take a break, and reconnect when life feels challenging again. Use therapy in a way that feels most helpful to you, and I’ll be here to support you in exploring what that might look like.
